Small Business Unified Communications

Before Cisco came out with the UC 500 Series the smaller businesses with up to 50 users just could not justify buying a POE Switch, a Call Manager Express and Cisco Unity. But now that this great box is out on the market it is making great strides with small businesses. Talking to customers and showing the value of Cisco in Unified Communications is much easier now, while some other vendors have small business units customer really like that Cisco has put the same features that enterprise companies have into a smaller box.

It even gets better than that when customers find out that they can add a wireless card, it comes with an automated attendant and that they can have music on hold. But the best part of this very nice box is that it comes with a very easy to use configuration assistant. Many companies want to be able to set the box up themselves and when they see that you can have the Cisco UC 500 series up and running in around thirty minutes they are sold.

I know many customer that have looked at other vendors such as Avaya, Nortel, ShoreTel and some of the lower price vendors; but they are always coming back to this system due to all of the features that it can provide. Also when they find out that they can use built in VPN software and the same IP Phones that large enterprise users have they even like it more.

What is next for the Cisco Unified Communications 500 Series? Many people ask me if they will ever add a small presence server or software to the box. Since companies can use a soft client they are looking for this next. If Cisco could add this and perhaps mobile client servers for PDA’s and smart phones they will even have a bigger winner with small businesses that want that large enterprise system feel and look.
